Let’s keep Brightspace study-related

23 April 2026

It seems our students are inundated with information that reaches them through various channels. They struggle to see the wood for the trees, which means they might miss important information. That’s something we must avoid.

Brightspace

Brightspace is one of the platforms students use the most and it’s primarily used for teaching purposes: timetables, assignments, and course materials. So, it's important to keep this platform clear and relevant, and we’re all responsible for that.

Only post study-related information

We’ve noticed that Brightspace is often ‘contaminated’ with content that has nothing to do with courses or teaching – such as promoting study association, events or workshops. Though these initiatives are of course all worthwhile, they only add to the ‘interference’ on a platform meant for education. So, we kindly ask you:

  • only use Brightspace for study-related communication;
  • do not post promotional or external notifications on the course environments.

Contact our Communications Department

Would you like to share a message with students that’s not directly study-related? Or have you received such a request? Please forward it to the faculty Communications Department at communicatie@law.leidenuniv.nl. They’ll assess the content, target group and the most appropriate channel (e.g. website, social media or the screens). One alternative is Studentinfo, a separate general page on Brightspace that is not related to a specific course. This page is also managed and maintained by the Communications Department in consultation with the OIC, LLP and the study advisors. On this page, urgent notifications, general study-related or administrative information and important requests are posted that are relevant for all students.

Let’s keep things clear

To recap, please ensure the course environments on Brightspace are free of promotional information about secondary activities. Send such requests to communicatie@law.leidenuniv.nl, so we can ensure we only send clear and effective communication to our students.

Do you have any questions or doubts about a post? Feel free to get in touch with the Communications Department.
