Temporary closure of various spaces in the Gorlaeus Building on 23 and 24 July

8 June 2026

On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 July, maintenance work will be carried out on the ventilation system in the Gorlaeus Building. During this period, a number of offices and labs will be inaccessible, and it will not be possible to work or study in parts of the building.

Which rooms are closed?

  • The entire C-wing from the basement up to the 4th floor

Laboratories and technical rooms

  • The astrophysics laboratory in the B-wing

Teaching and communal spaces

  • Library
  • Study associations
  • De Fusie
  • Lecture hall BM.1.33
  • Lecture hall CM.1.26

Other spaces

  • Toilets in the B- en C-wing (near the entrances)

If you work in the C-wing or need access to any of the offices and labs listed above, you will not be able to use them on 23 and 24 July. Where possible, we kindly ask you to work from home or make use of an alternative workspace in the building.

After 24 July

Following inspection and ventilation, the spaces will be released again. From Monday 27 July, the above-mentioned areas are expected to be back in normal use.

This will be followed by a further two-week period of planned maintenance. During this time, ventilation in laboratories will remain fully operational. In office and meeting spaces, ventilation may be more limited than usual.

We advise that, where possible, windows, ventilation hatches and doors are opened in these spaces to allow additional air circulation. Please ensure these are closed when leaving.

The maintenance work will continue until 7 August.
