The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the Syrian National Commission on Missing Persons (NCMP) are pleased to hold special event in partnership with Leiden University marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
On this occasion, Dr. Mohammed Rida Jalkhi, the Head of the NCMP, will also deliver a lecture on the missing persons process in Syria and present the strategic vision of the NCMP to locate up to 300,000 missing persons resulting from atrocities committed by the Asad regime, Da’esh, and other horrific circumstances in which persons have gone missing in Syria over the last several decades. He will stress the importance of locating all missing persons, regardless of ethnic, religious background or circumstances of their disappearance and securing the rights of all families of the missing in a manner that upholds the rule of law, as an essential contribution to achieving transitional justice and civil peace in Syria and the wider region.
Former Dutch Foreign Minister and Professor emeritus Peace, Justice and Security, Bert Koenders, will moderate the event.
