How do I manage expectations with researchers and colleagues?

You love supporting researchers in what they need to achieve their goals. But this can feel like a lonely job. Why does that PI not give you a heads up about their plan? Why does that researcher expect you to come up with the text for the proposal? Even when you communicated what you can do, they do not seem to yield. So how can you manage expectations with more ease and deal with resistance that comes your way?

After this workshop

  • You will be aware of where your influence lies
  • You will have learned strategies to address unrealistic expectations
  • You will have learned approaches for recognizing and dealing with resistance

What to expect

In this compact, interactive workshop we will work together on your day-to-day practical situations. We alternate short theory with self-examination and reflection, learning from peers and practicing conversation situations.

Practical information

Registration is required. Max. participants: 12

This workshop is given in English. Please note that using Dutch in non-plenary elements of the program is also facilitated.

Who’s organising this event?

This event is organised by the Leiden Research Support Network. The network is for all research support professionals working at Leiden University. Within the network, research support professionals from different domains exchange knowledge and experiences, and work together to answer (complex) questions from researchers.
