To honor our beloved colleague and friend, Frans de Ruiter, who sadly passed away on 16 July 2025, the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA) cordially invites you to a special event, where we celebrate Frans’ legacy.
As many of you know, Frans was the visionary founder and for a long time dean and academic director of (ACPA) at Leiden University and the University of the Arts The Hague, and of the docARTES PhD programme. He played a pivotal role in shaping the field of artistic research in music as Professor in the Arts, especially in the relationship between higher arts education and academic research.
ACPA, with the help of many others, is organizing a commemorative event to bring together former doctoral students, colleagues, and friends from across the musical and academic communities with which he was closely involved.
The Frans de Ruiter Study Day will take place in Leiden on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, beginning in the early afternoon (doors open 14.00 hrs.) until about 21.00 hrs. in the charming Lokhorstkerk in the center of historic Leiden.
The programme will include:
- Personal testimonials and moments of remembrance
- Short academic presentations
- Musical performances throughout the afternoon
- The afternoon will close with a public presentation by Anna Bianco, the last doctoral candidate supervised by Frans de Ruiter, in anticipation of her defense on 3 December 2025 at the Academy Building of Leiden University
- A final concert in the evening (20.00 hrs.)
