Working hours

You and your manager agree on how many hours you will work. The standard working hours for a full-time employment are 38 hours per week.

More or fewer working hours

You may choose to work more or fewer hours by applying the flexible working hours option. For example, when you simply can't work full-time. Or when you have a function-based contract as academic staff.

Do you have health problems and is it therefore for you only possible to work at certain hours? Discuss it with your manager. You always reach an agreement together on when you start and finish work.

Break during working hours

If you work for at least 5.5 hours per day, you have a compulsory half-hour lunch break.

Taking vacation

For a 38-hour week you have 232 vacation hours per year. You can book vacation hours through Self Service.  Instructions for apply leave, read this Knowledge Item.

Holidays and compulsory closures

You do not have to work on national holidays and compulsory closure days, unless this is in the interest of the University. You have national holidays off, without having to use vacation hours. You do have to take vacation days for compulsory closures.
