Research

The SSH labs provide research space for scientists from the Social and Behavioural Sciences and Humanities faculties of Leiden University. You can find the SSH labs in the Pieter de la Court building, the Sylvius building, the Lipsius building and the P.J. Veth building.

The Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) labs are being realised on the second floor of the Sylvius building. Completion is scheduled for summer 2023.

Staff from the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities jointly provide lab support to the participating institutes.

On the second floor of the Sylvius Laboratory, new labs are being built for researchers of the Faculties of Social and Behavioural Sciences and Humanities. After a successful tender construction has recently started.

The new SSH labs will offer great opportunities for FSW and FGW staff engaged in experimental research. The labs will be a place of inspiration, not only because of the state-of-the-art equipment, but also as a result of the increased interaction with colleagues in other disciplines.

Before the SSH labs in the Sylvius building will open their doors in the new academic year, there are still some obstacles to overcome. But when everything has been taken care of, the laboratories will be a place ‘where you can do almost everything you would ever want to do in your lab research.’

Just outside Leiden city centre is the Sylvius building. This building of the Faculty of Science houses no fewer than 25 labs where FGW and FSW scientists conduct their research.

The PDI-SSH grant will be used by Meuwese to create a web portal and collection of tools and resources, named ‘WetSuite’, that will help researchers apply Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to legal textual data from public bodies.

Na een grote verbouwing is het souterrain van het Pieter de la Courtgebouw bijna onherkenbaar veranderd. Donkere, verouderde ruimtes maakten plaats voor frisse, lichte onderwijszalen en ruime, moderne labruimtes met state-of-the-art faciliteiten. Donderdag 12 juni was de officiële opening.

The SSH labs are easily accessible from Leiden Central Station and by car. However, parking spaces are limited.

Researchers in all SSH labs can count on comprehensive support in their research. Technical support is available on site during office hours. The lab manager will also be present as much as possible.
