An international committee has assessed the maths research at all Dutch universities over the period from 2009 to 2014. Maths in Leiden was awarded the ‘highest’ grade ( a 1) on all criteria: quality of the research, societal relevance and sustainability.

Mathematicians from Bordeaux, Leiden and Padua have been working together for 20 years. In 2004, they started a two-year mathematics master's degree in Algebra, Number Theory and Geometry (Algant). They celebrated the 20th anniversary of this consortium at the Algant graduation ceremony in Leiden.

On January 16, 2022, our respected and beloved colleague Prof. dr. Bas Edixhoven passed away after a short period of serious illness.
