Organisational Development programme

Leiden University needs space to be able to innovate, and the Organisational Development programme is working on this.

We need space for innovation. This is evident from accreditation assessments, employee experience surveys and interviews with staff and students. It is also one of the ambitions specified in the Strategic Plan 2022-2027. In the years ahead, we will add form and content to this development for our university, involving colleagues from many different organisational units.

Complex organisation

The organisation of the university service departments is very complex and too fragmented. This can contribute to slow and sometimes non-transparent decision-making. Responsibilities are not clearly allocated, which makes our governance processes less coherent and effective. This situation impairs our ability to act strategically and resolutely in a rapidly changing world.

What we’re working together to achieve

  • Ability to respond quickly and correctly to internal and external developments.
  • Preparedness for declining student numbers.
  • Space for academic research with visible societal impact.
  • Strong connections between strategy and implementation, with collaborative teams and reliable services.
  • Lower workload and better support for staff and students.
  • Clear tasks, roles and mandates.
  • Shared leadership as the norm.
