Mediasite

Overview of lecture halls equipped with Mediasite

SEEDS coordinates the process of scheduling recordings in Mediasite.
When your lecture takes place in a hall with Mediasite, we plan a recording. You'll receive an email in the week before the lecture is scheduled.

Mediasite weblectures are audiovisual recordings of lectures. A recording consists of video and/or audio of the speaker and an image of what is projected in class (PowerPoint, Prezi, videos, etc.). Besides weblecture recordings, Mediasite allows lectures to be livestreamed (with a 30-60 seconds delay) for at home viewing or in another classroom. It’s possible to add a moderated Q&A to Mediasite livestreams.

To the right you find a manual on the set up of Mediasite in the lecture hall itself.

Zoom

Zoom is the best tool to record lectures in halls without the Mediasite functionality, because you can both record the camera images and possible screen share. Both streams will be viewable in the final recording and as viewer you can switch between the two. This provides you with the best possible image quality when you use a blackboard.

Please find a manual on the set up of Zoom in regular lecture halls on the right.

Check your lecture room's facilities via the Education Spaces Viewer (check the column with AV-IT Facilities for 'camera').

Microsoft Teams

Teams can be used as a platform to host online meetings for educational purposes.

Tips & tricks

  • Teams provides functionalities like a whiteboard, the ability to mute participants, screen sharing, break-out rooms, and more.
  • Calls on Teams are limited to a maximum of 300 participants.
  • For more tips and information on Teams, check out the staff webpage, and the Microsoft Teams webpage

SEEDS can help you with questions on the use of Teams in education. For general Teams support, please contact the ISSC helpdesk.

Video portal: My media

Videos that are recorded in Zoom are automatically stored in the video portal under 'My Media'. In the video portal you can change the video settings, edit a video and share/publish your videos to a channel or Brightspace course.

From the My Media section of the video portal you can:

  • Publish videos to your channel or your Brightspace course;
  • Add people to a video as an editor of co-viewer;
  • Set the link to a video to 'unlisted', which entails that anyone can watch the video through the link;
  • Check the video analytics

Here you find more information about video settings: manual videoportal website.

Video toolkit on creating videos

Check out the video toolkit for inspiration on creating videos. The toolkit gives useful tips on what to take into consideration when making weblectures, but also on topics like how to present in front of a camera, and what to think about when setting up a camera.

Recording support: studio and location

Studio

SEEDS manages a rudimentary studio in the Gorlaeus (CM.K1.01a). You can use the studio to record simple weblectures in a low noise environment.

Click here to make a reservation. The SEEDS team will contact you to confirm your appointment and discuss the practicals.

Lecture rooms

Lecture rooms also provide a good opportunity to make a recording with Zoom or another tool you have available on your work laptop. Via the Education Spaces Viewer you can check whether your lecture room has a camera (check the column with AV-IT Facilities for 'camera').

For rooms without a permanent camera: At the reception desks of lecture buildings, you can borrow a webcam and tripod for a few hours to use in rooms without a camera. It's not possible to reserve / book a webcam in advance.

Video equipment

Do you need equipment for recordings?

  • At the reception desks of lecture buildings, you can borrow a webcam and tripod for a few hours to use in rooms without a camera. It's not possible to reserve / book a webcam in advance.
  • SEEDS has some basic audio-visual equipment that you can borrow. Contact us for more information or to make an appointment to collect / return equipment.
