Special leave and emergency leave

In certain circumstances, you may be entitled to short or long-term special leave. Emergency leave is leave that you may take if you need to take immediate time off from work to deal with sudden emergencies or exceptional personal circumstances.

Short-term special leave

You are entitled to short-term special leave in the instances below. In these instances, you retain your pay.

  1. Family circumstances

    You are entitled to short-term special leave for a wedding or funeral, for instance. The duration of the leave and all circumstances in which you are entitled to this leave are described in Article 3 of the Regulations on Special Leave.
  2. Leave for union work

    You may be granted leave to attend union activities. The circumstances in which you are entitled to this are described in Article 4 of the Special Leave Regulations.
  3. Other circumstances

    You are also entitled to special leave if you are moving house, for instance. You will find all other special circumstances listed in Article 5 of the Regulations on Special Leave.

You can book special leave through Self Service (after you logged in via Remote workplace). Select ‘special leave’ and provide the reason for your request. The leave will not be deducted from your accrued leave.

Extended special leave

Under certain circumstances, you may request a longer period of special leave. In some instances, this leave is on full or partial pay. For more information see Article 2 of the Regulations on Special Leave.

  • If you are taking leave that you have saved through the long-term savings option, this is paid leave. See the CAO for more information.
  • You may also take long-term leave for a sabbatical. You and your manager must reach an agreement on whether the sabbatical will be unpaid or on full or partial pay. For more information see the CAO.

Emergency leave

Emergency leave is leave that you make take if you need to take immediate time off from work to deal with sudden emergencies or exceptional personal circumstances.  This could in the event of the death of a family member or if your child falls ill and needs to be picked up from school. You are entitled to a maximum of two working days of paid emergency leave within a period of 12 months.
 

Emergency leave

Book the emergency leave as special leave in Self Service (after you logged in via Remote workplace). Indicate that it is emergency leave and state the reason. Emergency leave will not be deducted from your accrued leave. Do not forget to tell your manager that you will be absent.
