Evening of Languages 26 September – Will You Join Us?
On 26 September – the European Day of Languages – we will shine a spotlight on our rich array of language and culture programmes. The faculty is organising the Evening of Languages, and we warmly invite you to join us. With an inspiring event we offer the public the opportunity to discover your area of expertise.
In these times of financial pressure and declining student numbers, we aim to demonstrate the relevance of your expertise and the forward-looking nature of our programmes. We are envisioning a varied programme of short lectures, interactive sessions, and accessible workshops for (prospective) students, interested residents of Leiden, alumni, and the (local) press. One idea is to host a “language market” in the central hall of the Herta Mohr, accompanied by drinks and opportunities for conversation and networking.
Would you like to take part?
If so, please let us know by 25 June at the latest by filling in this form, indicating what you would like to contribute and what you will need. For now, simply stating the topic and whether it is a lecture or another type of activity will suffice. Contributions from each programme are warmly welcomed, as long as the subject is related in some way to the theme of ‘Languages’.

Diverse programme
The Evening of Languages will be part of a broader programme taking place on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 September. On Thursday, there will be an activity for around 120 first-year secondary school pupils in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français. That evening, LeidenGlobal will host an event at the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO). On Friday afternoon, HERLING will organise an event in partnership with local hospitality venues, where visitors can experience different languages paired with matching snacks.
