‘Klimaatmodellen focussen op economie, niet op welzijn’

Why do climate models still prioritise economic indicators over human impact? In a podcast of Land & Climate, environmental scientist Inge Schrijver highlights a critical blind spot in how climate change is assessed.

Schrijver argues that dominant models overlook key human consequences. ‘Climate models mainly measure the impact on economic growth, while wellbeing largely remains out of sight,’ she explains. As a result, effects such as health problems, inequality and mental stress are insufficiently captured. According to Schrijver, this limits how we understand the real impact of climate change and calls for models that put human wellbeing at the centre.
