PhD Introductory meeting

Your career as a PhD candidate at Leiden University or Leiden University Medical Center starts with the introductory meeting. These meetings are organised five times a year, and are compulsory for all new PhD candidates.

Dates

In 2024, introductory meetings will be held on the following dates:

  • 1 March – Online, 13:15 – 14:45
  • 20 March – Academy building, Rapenburg 73 Leiden, 13:30 – 17:00 (incl. drinks!)

Programme

The introduction days are organised both online and physically. In both forms, you become familiar with doing a PhD at Leiden University: what is expected of you, which facilities and services you can count on and which training courses you have to follow as a PhD student. You will also meet a member of the Executive Board.

We advise you to join the physical day, if you are in the Netherlands. The Academy building in which we meet, the theatre performance and the opportunity to meet fellow PhD students all make this meeting worth the trip to Leiden!

Studyload in Lucris

Participation in the introductory meeting carries a study load/workload of five hours. Your attendance is tracked online and automatically processed in LUCRIS (Converis).

Programme from spring 2024

Currently, the programme for the introductory meeting for PhD candidates is being revised. On 20 March the final meeting in its current form takes place. Registration for this meeting is no longer possible as we have reached the maximum number of participants.

When and how can you participate?

From spring 2024, the programme will be replaced by online information as well as meetings that focus on specific themes and are scheduled throughout the year. In due time you will be informed about the possibilities in the newsletter for PhD candidates and/or by your Graduate School. In the meantime, you can find the most important information for your PhD track summarized in this online module.
