Smooth and professional management of research projects is key to successful delivery and compliance with funder requirements. Research project management encompasses a wide range of tasks, from budget tracking and reporting to coordinating project activities. Project managers take care of these tasks – and more – in close collaboration with researchers, allowing them to focus on their research. They also serve as a bridge connecting researchers with other research support services.

The Pool complements existing project management capacity within institutes and faculties and provides support when local capacity is not available.

By working with a project manager from the Pool, researchers can avoid a lengthy recruitment process and quickly access experienced project management support tailored to their project's needs. We match each project with the right project manager/s based on expertise and availability, ensuring flexible support throughout the project lifecycle.

In addition to their project management expertise, Pool project managers have extensive knowledge of Leiden University's processes and procedures. This institutional knowledge helps researchers navigate the university effectively and connect with the right people and resources when needed.

Our services are available to researchers at Leiden University when:

• project management support is not available within the faculty or institute; and
• the (collaborative) project is externally funded and includes a budget for project management.

As early as possible! While researchers can request support at any stage of a project's lifecycle, we encourage them to get in touch during the pre-award phase whenever possible. Early involvement allows us to tailor project management support to the project's specific needs and helps ensure a smooth start once funding is awarded.
