As of 16 August Ignas Snellen is the new Scientific Director of the astronomical institute of the Faculty of Science. He will succeed Huub Rottgering, who led the institute since 2012. Snellen has been appointed for a period of four years.

Jan Aarts will stay on as scientific director of LION for another year. He has been reappointed until 1 March 2024. His successor is already known. Sense Jan van der Molen will take over next year. He will be the new scientific director of LION until 1 March 2028.
