Student mentors and student tutors
As a student mentor or student tutor, you are involved in the mentoring programme on behalf of your study programme. You will receive information about your role from a dedicated mentoring coordinator from your study programme or faculty.
A student mentor plays an informal, social role. As a student mentor, you help new students find their feet and encourage them to connect with one another. You support their social integration and well-being. The student tutor also teaches academic skills. Student tutors share responsibility for carrying out a structured mentoring programme, designed by the university.
A Brightspace environment is available for all student mentors and student tutors at Leiden University. Here you will find information to help you prepare for your role as student mentor and to organise your mentoring meetings, including the following:
- A basic e-learning course to help you prepare for student mentoring or student tutoring
- Tools: A convenient overview of various tools that will come in handy during mentoring meetings
- Handy, ready-to-use teaching materials that you can use directly during a mentoring meeting as a student tutor
- An additional range of free training courses if you want to learn more about social safety and/or mental health
