Hybrid teaching

When the combination is made of onsite and online teaching, this is called hybrid education. Within the FGGA this is possible thanks to the hybrid rooms.

The hybrid rooms have additional screens, allowing instructors to see both students in the room and those sitting elsewhere in one view. Students elsewhere can see the instructor, the shared screen, and possibly the whiteboard with the instructor's notes. This provides almost a virtually identical experience to when a student is physically present on-site.

Hybrid rooms

Wijnhaven has five rooms available for hybrid teaching (2.58, 2.59, 3.60, 3.16, and 3.18). Anna van Buerenplein has three rooms (3.05, 3.06, and 3.16), as does the Spui building (3B36, 4B36, and 5B28).

In these rooms, equipment is available allowing teachers of work groups and chairpersons of presentations and/or meetings to contact everyone in the room and those connected digitally from one single location. The FLO team provides support with the technical aspects of hybrid education to enhance teaching skills.

Need a Webcam?

In case no hybrid rooms are available, you can borrow a webcam with a built-in microphone from the reception. Using the selected software (MS Teams/Zoom), hybrid classes can still be held.

The webcam can be picked up without a reservation and must be returned after the class.

Workshop

In addition to support, the FLO team also offers the Hybrid Teaching & Hybrid Meetings workshop, where further knowledge is shared about the use of hybrid teaching.

If you would like to participate in this workshop or have any questions about hybrid teaching, please contact FLO@fgga.leidenuniv.nl.
