Thesistool

The Thesistool replaces the thesis assessment forms for the Security Studies and Public Administration programmes. The assessment process using the tool consists of two phases: the individual thesis assessment by the supervisor and the second reader, followed by the joint thesis assessment.

Assessing using the Thesistool

Start (individual) assessment

Log in at https://scriptiebeoordeling-fgga.universiteitleiden.nl/ with your ULCN account. You will now see your “dashboard”. If needed, you can change the display language via the menu on the left-hand side of the page. Select a thesis under “Own assessment incomplete” to start the assessment. In this first phase of the process, the thesis supervisor and second assessor can work on the thesis assessments individually.

Thesis supervisor

The first thing to do as thesis supervisor, is to find the second assessor using their surname and assign them to the thesis. You can then start the assessment by filling in the various rubrics. The list on the left-hand side of the page shows which rubrics have been completed. (NOTE: make sure to save your progress regularly by clicking the green button!) Go through the three steps of the plagiarism check and enter the marks. Save the assessment (again) when it is complete, after which the “submit” button appears. You can now submit your assessment. The next step is the joint assessment, which will be available as soon as the second reader has submitted his/her assessment.

Second assessor

Fill out the various rubrics of the thesis assessment. The list on the left-hand side of the page shows which sections have been completed. (NOTE: make sure to save your progress regularly by clicking on the green button!). Enter the grades where needed and save the assessment (again), after which the “submit” button appears. You can now submit your assessment. The next step is the joint assessment, which will become available as soon as the supervisor has submitted his/her assessment.

Joint assessment

To start the second phase of the assessment process, you can select an assessment under “Joint assessment”.

Thesis supervisor

Check the thesis assessment and adjust the partial grades where necessary. The final grade for the thesis can be adjusted manually. If you want the thesis grade to be processed at a later date, you can adjust the date on which the mark is sent to the OSC. Save the assessment and submit it.

Second assessor

Check the thesis assessment and accept it (green button) or reject it (red button). Once the thesis assessment has been approved, it will be sent to the OSC for processing.

Assessment in discussion

When the final grade assigned by the second assessor differs too greatly from the grade assigned by the thesis supervisor, the assessment is moved to the stage “Assessment in discussion” on the dashboard. The supervisor and second reader will consult with each other and choose one of the following options.

Joint assessment

If the supervisor and second reader reach an agreement following their consultation, the thesis supervisor can create a joint assessment. This can then be submitted by the supervisor and second reader.

No agreement

If the supervisor and second reader cannot reach an agreement on the thesis grade, the thesis supervisor contacts the thesis coordinator. The coordinator will assign a third assessor.
