Kaltura Liveroom not available after 1 August
Summary
The video application for education ‘Kaltura Liveroom’ will no longer be accessible starting August 1st. Recorded sessions will still be available in Brightspace and on the video platform video.leidenuniv.nl. For recordings and/or hybrid education, Zoom can be used.
If you have any documents, notes, PowerPoints, or PDFs in your Kaltura Liveroom(s), you need to secure them by downloading them before August 1st.
As of 1 August 2025, Kaltura Liveroom, previously known as Newrow in Brightspace (hereafter: KLR), will no longer be available as a video application for education. Kaltura (video.leidenuniv.nl) as the university's video platform will remain available. This means that all videos made with KLR will still be accessible on Kaltura after August 1. You will still be able to find them via Brightspace (Kaltura Media Gallery).
Zoom is the designated application for conducting online classes at Leiden University. More information on how to use Zoom.
There have been past concerns regarding data security with Zoom. In collaboration with SURF, Zoom has implemented significant changes. The latest privacy check from SURF confirms that Zoom is suitable for use with confidential information in education.

Moet ik vóór 1 augustus iets doen?
You will need to secure documents in your KLR such as PowerPoints, PDFs, notes, etc., that you have not stored elsewhere. Instructions for downloading your assets from Kaltura Liveroom.
Recordings previously made with KLR will remain available via Brightspace (Kaltura Media Gallery and MyMedia). No further action is required.
Is there a change in support for users?
The faculty support remains the same. For questions regarding the use of Zoom, we kindly refer you to the ECOLe website.
