Vivian Kraaij appointed Confidential Counsellor for Research Integrity

As of 1 September 2025, Vivian Kraaij has been appointed as Confidential Counsellor for Research Integrity for a term of four years. She succeeds Professor Janine Ubink in the role.

Vivian is currently an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology and brings extensive experience in scientific research through her work at Leiden University and the LUMC. As a senior researcher and member of the research committee of the Caring Universities student well-being project, she has developed deep expertise in ethical research practices and integrity.

The selection committee is confident that Vivian will be an active. She has a clear vision for the new role and is highly motivated to start working as a confidential counsellor.

Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl expressed her enthusiasm about the appointment. ‘I’ve come to know Vivian as an approachable and attentive researcher. She brings valuable knowledge and expertise to the role of Confidential Counsellor for Research Integrity. From 1 September, our staff will be able to contact her with any questions and concerns related to research integrity.’

About the Confidential Counsellor for Research Integrity

All students and academic staff at Leiden University are expected to adhere to the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (2018). The Confidential Counsellor for Research Integrity serves as the first point of contact for potential breaches of this code, such as suspected plagiarism, improper authorship attribution or issues related to data collection and processing. The counsellor can also advise on the process of submitting a formal complaint to the Academic Integrity Committee. All complaints are handled with strict confidentiality.
