Administration and Central Services and ASSC switching to Teams Phone
Administration and Central Services and the ASSC are switching to Teams Phone on 9 December. This will replace traditional telephone exchanges and landline phones. If you use a landline, you’ll still be able to call and receive calls on this number, but then in the Teams app on your laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet.
What does this mean for you?
- If you have a 071 number, you’ll use Teams for phone calls from 9 December. The desk phones will be removed.
- Some departments also have ‘pick-up phones’. They’ll receive separate instructions and support.
- Once your number has been transferred, you’ll receive a mail from Microsoft explaining how to use Teams Phone.
Steps in the transition
- On 5 December, you’ll receive an email from Microsoft saying that your 071 number has been linked to your Teams account.
- On Monday 8 December, you’ll see a keypad for phone calls in your Teams environment. From then onwards you’ll be able to phone through Teams.
- On Tuesday 9 December, the settings at the telephone exchange will be changed and incoming calls will come through Teams. From that point you’ll no longer use your desk phone.
- Phones will be removed from desks in 2026.
