Contribute to the Leiden Law Blog in 2026!

22 January 2026

The Leiden Law Blog is a platform of Leiden Law School where researchers, lecturers and students contribute to current discussions on topics related to law and economics. An opportunity to share expertise and insights with a broader audience and contribute to academic debate.

A blog is a short and accessible text that can be followed by a wide audience. In it, you can share personal views on topics and in a personal capacity. See Leiden Law Blog for recent examples.

In 2026, we'd like to receive blogs on a number of topics in response to topical issues. An overview is provided below of topics we think might be interesting throughout the year:

General themes in 2026

  • Changes in the housing market (rental sector, benefits, rent increases)
  • Sustainability and the energy transition (e.g. road tax for electronic vehicles, stricter greenwashing rules, pressure on companies to take responsibility for transparent reporting)
  • Geopolitical tensions, including relations between the US and EU (Greenland, import tariffs, etc.), and the changing world order
  • The (irreversible) impact of AI within our society and the interaction between technology, law and justice
  • Trust in institutions such as the judiciary and European institutions, and the democratic rule of law

  • Earth Day on 22 April: blogs on climate law, climate litigation, rights of nature and the effects of climate change for future generations.
  • World Intellectual Property Day on 26 April: blogs on intellectual property, with special attention for the impact of AI on copyright and on the gaming industry.

Are you interested in these topics and would you like to submit a blog? Please contact communicatie@law.leidenuniv.nl and we'll send you the guidelines. Another reminder will be sent towards the summer.

Do none of the suggested topics appeal to you, but you'd still like to write a blog? We're always open to suggestions. For example, a blog can also be a great way to draw attention to an upcoming event or publication. We look forward to your interesting contributions!

Not sure if a blog is right for what you want to say? We’re more than happy to brainstorm with you about the best format for your content – we can also help to create a short video or social media post.
