Remote workplace (Citrix) to be discontinued on 2 April: what does this mean for you?

17 March 2026

From 2 April, the remote workplace (Citrix) will no longer be available. The university is switching to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), the new environment that allows you to work remotely with specific applications.

A number of specialised applications used by a limited group of staff have already been migrated to AVD and are currently being tested. These applications will become available to different user groups in phases.

Will I be able to continue my work without interruption?

Yes. We will ensure that you can continue working — there will be no moment in which you are left without access to the systems you need.

What will change for me?

Most staff members now use eduVPN to securely access their applications from home.

For applications where eduVPN alone is not sufficient, access will be provided via AVD. As soon as your applications are available in AVD, you will receive a notification. You can then continue your work in the way you are used to.

How do I use Azure Virtual Desktop?

Users who require Azure Virtual Desktop for their work will receive a message with a step by step guide explaining how to log in to AVD. This guide will also be available on the helpdesk portal.
