PhD Candidates: showcase your research impact and win a prize

28 April 2026

Are you a PhD candidate, researching topics related to Cultural Heritage, Future Materials and Technologies or One Health? Do you want to show how your research is making a difference? If so, enter the Una Europa PhD Impact competition by 14 June 2026.

What is the PhD Impact Award?

The PhD Impact Award celebrates research that is making a difference, now or in the future. It encourages PhD candidates to reflect on how their work contributes to society and helps shape a better world. For example, does your research:

  • Benefit certain communities or groups of people?
  • Improve products, processes or services?
  • Lead to economic benefits for companies, governments or other groups?
  • Contribute to education, training or upskilling?

If your research is making impact, learn more and apply!

Who can apply

All PhD candidates at Una Europa universities, including Leiden University and LUMC, are eligible to enter. You can apply at any stage of your PhD, right up until your defence.

What's in it for me?

Winners will be invited to the Una Europa General Assembly in Leuven, Belgium (16–18 November 2026) to showcase their research to the alliance community and network with other researchers from their field. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered.

Winners will also be invited to join an online science communication workshop (exact date to be confirmed) to support their preparations for presenting at the Una Europa General Assembly.

In addition, the winning entries will be published on the Una Europa website and winners will receive a digital certificate.

How can I apply?

Use this form to submit your application (in English).

The application form will invite you to consider the impact or potential impact of your research, e.g. on society, the economy, the environment, on health, on education, on technology, on culture or on policy.
