Arnold Stepanyan is founder and chair of one of the oldest civil movements in Georgia, the Public Movement for Multinational Georgia (PMMG). PMMG is umbrella organization which provides resource support and cooperates with the representatives of the more then 18 diaspora and 56 grass-root NGOs working in the field protection of rights of ethnic, religious and linguistic groups residing in Georgia. Activities of the Movement cover the whole territory of Georgia with the special focus on the capital and 5 regions, where the widest cultural diversity is observed – Kvemo-Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Shida-Kartli, Kakheti and Adjara. PMMG permanent representations function in these regions.In the long-termed perspective Movement seeks to establish tolerance and diversity as natural conditions of the democratic society in Georgia.
Anar Ahmadov is Associate Professor of Political Economy at Leiden University College in The Hague. His latest project “Western Institutions: do they promote or preclude democracy?” is funded by NWO Vidi scheme.
Elvin Yusifli is a PhD candidate at Leiden University College in The Hague, doing a research on democratization process in Azerbaijan.
Maja Vodopivec (Leiden University College) and Sever Dzigurski (KPSRL) are moderators of the Fireside Peace Chats.
Fireside Peace Chats series are informal, intimate chats with peacebuilders who have either lived in for an extended period of time or are from conflict-affected environments. Fireside Peace Chats are a joint initiative of Leiden University College The Hague (LUC), Knowledge Platform for Security and Rule of the Law (KPSRL), and the Humanity Hub (HH), with an aim to open a space where practice, research and policy in peacebuilding come together in an informal way, through experience of people on the ground. This initiative aims to contribute to a locally informed paradigm shift in liberal peacebuilding.
