Commuting expenses
For your commuting days, you can apply for a supplementary allowance in the Terms of Employment Individual Choices Model. You will not be reimbursed in full for your commuting expenses, but you will benefit from a tax benefit.
You can choose to offset your holiday allowance, year-end bonus or gross salary. It's not possible to combine these three monetary sources. By offsetting your holiday allowance and year-end bonus, you cannot offset the month of December.
Conditions
- You can submit your application starting from 15 January: you can offset your holiday allowance, gross income or end-of-year bonus until 15 December.
- Are you a new employee and did you start work before 1 December? If so, the effective date is the date of commencement of employment. Did you start work on or after 15 December? If so, you can join the Terms of Employment Individual Choices Model from 15 January of the next calendar year.
- You can only choose once for offsetting one of the sources. If you wish to offset your commuting expenses, we advise requesting this before the month in which you will start offsetting them. That makes it clearer on your payslip and prevents corrections later.
- You must reapply for this supplementary allowance based on the Individual Choices Model every year.
- The offset is based on your registered travel in Shuttel. Please make sure you have registered your travel correctly and on time in Shuttel.
Offsetting your commuting expenses
How much you can offset depends on the number of kilometres and the commuting days you registered in Shuttel.
- The offset is based on €0.23 per kilometre.
- Annually, you can offset a maximum of 214 commuting days.
- The offset is based on the number of kilometres in Shuttel between your home and your work address and the commuting days you registered in Shuttel.
- If you are already receiving a commuting allowance, this will be deducted from your fiscal commuting expenses offset.
- If your commute (single journey) is more than 75 kilometres, your offset will be calculated retroactively. If you have received too much, this amount will be adjusted subsequently.
