Care and support

Mariana’s term as confidential counsellor is coming to an end, and the Faculty Board would like to express sincere gratitude for the care and support she has provided during this time. In the meantime it has become clear that having an in-house confidential counsellor can sometimes create challenges, both for the counsellor and for PhD candidates, as it may involve sensitive situations concerning close colleagues. To address this, we are pleased that Annemarie Meijer will take on the role for the coming period.

Annemarie has already supported some of our PhD candidates when Mariana was away and has worked closely with the Graduate School to ensure clear communication and aligned expectations. This appointment will run for approximately two years, after which we will evaluate how the arrangement is working.

Annemarie will join the PhD Day in the spring of 2026 to present herself.

'PhD candidates deserve special attention'

‘PhD candidates deserve special attention,’ Annemarie said in a previous interview for the Faculty of Science. ‘How someone experiences such a trajectory ultimately has a significant impact on their future. Therefore, as a university, we also have the obligation to ensure that you receive the best possible support when facing obstacles.’
