How to make safe links for QR codes

13 October 2025

QR codes are handy, but can be used by hackers to steal personal data or direct users to fake sites. This can have a huge impact: research data falling into the wrong hands, a data breach or a system outage. Use edu.nl to shorten your links and ensure they are safe.

Safe links with edu.nl

Use edu.nl, a service provided by SURF, to make a safe link for your QR code. This service is only available to verified staff from research and teaching institutions. This rules out tracking or advertising, providing privacy and safety instead.

Use edu.nl for:

  • short, professional-looking links
  • peace of mind: guaranteed safe links
  • convenience: in your Favorites in a click (Ctrl+Shift+O)
