Changes in LLInC’s structure and ways of working
Blueprint development
Over the past months, the LLInC management has worked together on a blueprint for the next phase of the centre's development. The content of this blueprint is the welcome result of extensive consultation with vice-deans, teachers, and a wide range of other staff across Leiden University.
Following CvB approval in December 2025, the blueprint will be implemented throughout 2026. As a result, a number of changes will impact the department’s internal structure, services, and ways of working.
What you can expect from the new LLInC support
LLInC will cement its role as a bridge builder and facilitator with:
- A predictable shared infrastructure for educational and teacher development
- Key roles in educational innovation and connection on behalf of the university, both internally and externally
- An intermediary role, strengthening and uniting initiatives, communities, and existing structures in order to bridge the gap between educational vision and practical implementation
As is outlined in the blueprint, LLInC is updating their services and is currently refining and finalising these in close discussion with the faculties. Until the new system is fully implemented, please contact LLInC's Management Team to discuss any impact in your particular case. Agreements which have already been made are ongoing and, until September 2026, LLInC’s services will remain the same.
New team structure
Since its formation in January 2023, LLInC has been comprised of four teams. From now on, there will be three teams:
- Educational Development (Team Lead: Marijne Scherjon)
- Educational Futures & Technology (Team Lead: Uli Botzojorns)
- Evaluations, Media, & Communication (Team Lead: Karen van Muiden)
For details, please see LLInC’s Staff Overview.
Changes to services and the faculty hours system
As per 1 January, the current system of faculty hours has been discontinued. This change means a different way of working, with the aim of finding a better fit with faculties' needs and expanding scope for joint priorities. Changes will include (but are not limited to):
- UTQ training and evaluation services will not be invoiced, as had previously been the case. Customised requests are an exception
- Faculties will provide input on the prioritisation of innovation work
- Special Interest Groups (SIGs) on AI, Skills, Inter/transdisciplinary Learning, Learning Analytics, and Extended Reality (XR) will become a new way of working and co-creating with the faculties
Further details will be shared over the months ahead.
Currently hiring a new Director
LLInC is currently hiring a new Director who will work alongside the Management Team to steer the successful implementation of the blueprint and continue collaboration across the university. Caroline de Ruijter will remain as Interim Director. The new Director will be in place by the end of the second quarter.
