Chris Suijker appointed new director of Real Estate

3 July 2023

Chris Suijker will be the new Director of Real Estate at Leiden University with effect from 1 July 2024. Chris has been working at the Real Estate department for nine years, this year as Head of Energy and Sustainability and previously as programme manager for the Humanities Campus.

Martijn Ridderbos, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board: ‘In the year ahead, Chris will first continue her career in the role of deputy director supported by interim director Ferdy Poppelier. I’m really positive about the path we are taking here. It will allow a talented colleague with the right experience and background to take the next step in her development. I wish Chris all the best in her new role and look forward to working together.’

Chris: ‘In the nine years that I have worked at Real Estate, I have appreciated how helpful and creative my colleagues are. I am sure it will be a fantastic challenge to work with them to take university housing to an even higher level. I particularly want to put my efforts into the challenge of achieving greater sustainability. This is an area where we are already performing well and where there are still major steps to be taken. I am very happy to have this opportunity and cannot wait to create even more appropriate, inspiring and future-proof housing for the academic community in this new role.’
