Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities
Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam have been collaborating intensively for many years. In 2012 this collaboration was formalised in the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities strategic alliance. This has allowed us to approach important and complex societal challenges from an ever more multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective.
LDE Centres
Eight multidisciplinary centres were created under the banner of the alliance: the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centres. In these Centres, researchers work together on diverse themes, from world heritage to the circular economy, and from air quality to defining critical conditions for the success of higher education.
Medical Delta
The LDE centres established in 2012 were pre-dated by the Medical Delta, a network of knowledge and care institutions and companies active in the field of life sciences, health and technology, in which Leiden University also takes part. By joining forces, researchers, companies, care professional and governmental institutions are able to create joint innovations in medical technology and care.
Partners in education
Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam work together to expand their educational offerings. The three universities offer joint Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, and Master’s tracks in various combinations, as well as one fully joint study programme. The universities also offer new multidisciplinary Minors and honours classes on socially relevant themes. For professional audiences, the three universities have also developed post-initial educational programmes, together with external partners. For more information on joint educational offerings, please consult the LDE website.
Research on university education
The three universities aim to continuously improve and renew their educational offerings. In this context, the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Education and Learning conducts research on university education, with a focus on the combination of online and traditional learning.
