Open Science in Criminology - barriers and opportunities

Making data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) is a pillar of Open Science. Yet, privacy regulations hinder the implementation of FAIR principles in research fields working with sensitive data. In this OSCoffee, Katharina Kr├╝sselmann will present the challenges faced by many researchers in the discipline of criminology when it comes to sharing interviews with terrorists, individual-level data of victims or offenders of violent crime and more. Current initiatives, such as the NOW-subsidized SENSYN or Open Criminology, are presented as examples of how the discipline can move forward to overcome said challenges.
