Changes on Campus The Hague: what do they mean for you?

From January 2026, Leiden University will have an additional location in The Hague: Spui Campus. As well as teaching, study and sport facilities, it will offer 90 workspaces and meeting rooms for Leiden University staff.

With the new Spui building offering additional space, we have looked again at the allocation of office space and decided to close the Beehive and Stichthage locations at the start of next year.

What will be where in The Hague?

Campus The Hague will have four locations as of January 2026: Schouwburgstraat, Wijnhaven, Spui Campus and the Anna van Bueren building. All are in the city centre and within walking distance of each other. Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) will remain in the Anna van Bueren building – nothing changes for this site.

The staff from the departments affected have already been informed about the new plan. A special team is preparing the move to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.

Read below what will change per location from January 2026:

Schouwburgstraat

  • The International Studies and Urban Studies programmes (Faculty of Humanities) and the Dual PhD Centre will remain at Schouwburgstraat.
  • The student deans and psychologists from Student Support Services (SEA) will move from Beehive to Schouwburgstraat.

Wijnhaven

  • The FGGA institutes and faculty office will remain in Wijnhaven, as will the Grotius Centre (Leiden Law School) and the staff of the new bachelor’s programme in Cyber Security & Cyber Crime.
  • The Centre for Professional Learning will move from Schouwburgstraat to Wijnhaven.
  • The study associations, Campus The Hague Team, ISSC, University Services Department and POPcorner The Hague will also have workspaces in Wijnhaven.

Spui Campus

The new bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Economics, and International Relations and Organisations (IRO) will be located in the new Spui building, with a view of the Binnenhof from their workspaces. IRO is moving from Wijnhaven to Spui, as is Health Campus The Hague (LUMC).

Flexible workspaces for all Leiden University staff

Sixty flexible workspaces will be available for staff who are teaching in The Hague, have a meeting or just want to work in the city for a day. All Leiden University staff can book these.

Teaching at all locations in The Hague

Each location in The Hague has a different identity and function. The new Spui building will have an examination hall seating 500, Wijnhaven has the largest lecture hall and the Spanish Steps and Schouwburgstraat has the Living Lab brainstorming space.

Campus The Hague is unique: all locations are in the city centre and within walking distance of each other, and nearly all faculties are represented. Although institutes and their staff have their offices at one particular location, students use all the buildings. Their timetable will be taken into account to ensure they don’t have to move unnecessarily from one loaction to another. Staff benefit from the ‘home advantage’: where possible, they will teach close to their workplace.

Spui Campus

The former V&D department store (later Hudson’s Bay) has recently been completely renovated and transformed into a fully fledged 20,000 m² university building. Alongside Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, the Open University, the LUMC and the Universities of the Netherlands will also be moving to the building.

This unique location with a view of the city, ministries and the Binnenhof, will have lecture halls, exam halls seating 500, collaborative workspaces, a restaurant, flexible study spaces and workspaces for staff. The university’s research and teaching reflect The Hague’s identity as a city of peace and justice while also engaging with key urban challenges such as sustainability and security. The building will officially open its doors in January 2026.
