What to do in the case of a weather alert

The KNMI issues weather warnings in various codes depending on the weather's risk to people's safety. Below, you can read what the university and faculty follow for these codes.

When it comes to the safety of employees and students who are on their way for work or education, it is important to communicate clearly during a weather warning. In the case of code orange, as was issued today on 2 November 2023, exams and teaching at the Leiden Law School will proceed as usual. If this changes, please follow the updates on the website.

Yellow Warning of possible local chances of dangerous weather
  • No change for students and employees.
Orange Be prepared: high chance of dangerous or extreme weather with possible impact and damage.
  • No change for students and employees.
  • Exams and teaching continue as usual.
  • Follow university updates on the website
Red in South Holland

Undertake action; Weather warning with a significant impact on society. Issued at least 12 hours in advance

  • Exams/assessments are canceled in South Holland.
  • Teaching may be conducted digitally.
  • Replacement dates will be announced as soon as possible.
  • Follow ULCN email and website for updates
Red outside South Holland Be prepared
  • Exams and teaching continue as usual.
  • Possible attendance requirements for classes are waived.
  • Absence from an exam due to a red weather alert in your own province can be reported as a valid excuse to the board of examiners.
