Special interest group on AI in education: sign up for the first meeting

16 March 2026

AI in education is evolving rapidly — but what does the research say? During the very first meeting of the new AI in Education Special Interest Group (AIED SIG), we look beyond the hype and explore concrete, safe applications you can start using right away in your own teaching practice. The AIED SIG is facilitated by the Leiden Learning & Innovation Centre (LLInC).

What can you expect?

Scientific insights that matter

Mario de Jonge (ICLON) will walk you through the article “Looking beyond the hype: Understanding the effects of AI on Learning.” Discover the ways GenAI can influence student learning and what that means for designing education.

Live demo: Getting started with LUCA

Julian van der Kraats (ISSC) will demonstrate how LUCA works: Leiden University’s secure, protected chatbot platform where instructors can experiment with generative AI. See how easy it is to test your own scenarios, design didactic applications, and try out new ideas.

For whom?

This session is relevant for all staff involved in education — from instructors and educational specialists to developers, policymakers, and support staff. Students are also very welcome. Please register before 25 March 2026.
