Ecological Imaginings
In this guest lecture, Prof. Eileen Moyer, University of Amsterdam, will address the ways that anthropologists might learn to think about or imagine the world through a lens of ecology. The lecture will focus on current limits to anthropological scales relating to temporalities, geographies, topographies and biologies.
Eileen Moyer
Eileen Moyer is currently a Professor in the Department of Anthropology's Anthropology of Ecology, Health, and Climate Change. Her current work is the culmination of more than two decades of HIV/AIDS research. Since completing her PhD at the University of Amsterdam in 2003, she has received funding from a variety of international sources to investigate the various ways in which HIV/AIDS is intertwined with human social relations in urban Africa.
Moyer is widely regarded as a leading international social science researcher in the fields of HIV and sexual health, as well as community engagement; the majority of her applied research has focused on improving HIV or sexual and reproductive health interventions in the developing world. She has over 80 publications to her name, including articles in anthropological, medical, public health, health policy, urban, and media studies journals. She is also the co-founder and co-editor of Medicine Anthropology Theory, an open-access journal.
