A Climate Change Education Workshop for Instructors & Curriculum Designers

Teaching for Sustainable Tomorrows is a two-part, hands-on, reflective workshop designed for educators who want to meaningfully incorporate climate change and sustainability into their teaching—whether through a single lesson or a course-wide transformation. Each session has a distinct focus, and participants are welcome to attend one or both:

  • Session 1: From Content to Impact: Embedding Sustainability in Your Classroom. Explore practical strategies to integrate sustainability across disciplines and make meaningful curriculum shifts.
  • Session 2: Hope, Fear & Action: Exploring Emotions in Sustainability Education. Engage with the emotional dimension of climate education, including how to support students’ eco-anxiety, resilience, and motivation.

This workshop supports educators in all fields to approach climate education not just with content, but with care—centering student emotion, engagement, and well-being. You’ll leave with concrete changes to your own syllabus and a suite of tools to support your next steps. Each module of this workshop counts as an optional component towards your BKO certification.

Workshop programme

While the focal area of the workshops is different, our overall programme over the two days is as follows:

Welcome & Introductions
We’ll start with a warm welcome and share the vision behind the workshop. You'll connect with colleagues and reflect on your own goals for climate teaching.

From Minor Tweaks to Major Impact
What does climate change education look like in your discipline? Get inspired by small (and large) syllabus shifts across humanities, STEM, and social sciences.

Climate Emotions in the Classroom
Students are feeling the climate crisis deeply. This session explores how emotions like eco-anxiety, grief, and even hope shape learning—and how to hold space for these responses in a productive, pedagogically sound way.

You’ll learn:

  • How emotions influence student motivation and retention

  • Simple practices to support emotional resilience in class

  • Reflective tools to help students process and stay engaged

Tools & Resources to Support You
We’ll introduce plug-and-play resources including readings, multimedia, and frameworks for integrating sustainability themes into your discipline.

Personal Syllabus Work Time
Bring your own course materials—we’ll guide you through identifying a place to make a change, and support you as you start redesigning with intention.

Find the climate moment in your teaching.
Even small changes can prepare students to navigate and shape a sustainable future.
