Vacancy Director of Graduate School (0.2/0.3 FTE)
The new Director of the Graduate School will fulfil a key role in the area of PhD policy. The key responsibilities in this position are:
- Monitoring the quality of research
- Correct supervision of PhD candidates
- An enjoyable and successful completion of the full PhD trajectory for all PhD candidates (both internal and external)
The Director will be in close contact with the PhD Deans, the Confidential Counsellor for PhD Candidates, the Head of Research Affairs, and the staff of the Graduate School.
The Director of the Graduate School takes a pragmatic approach, with open and constructive conversations and an understanding of the complexity of the PhD trajectory. This includes activities such as:
- Monitoring the quality of PhD theses
- Talking to PhD supervisors and others involved
- Assessing the admission files of external PhD candidates
- Developing new faculty policy where necessary
- Actively searching for solutions in individual cases
Graduate School of Legal Studies
At Leiden Law School, the Graduate School of Legal Studies is responsible for the administration, coordination and organisation of all ongoing processes and procedures in relation to PhD studies. It offers PhD candidates and their supervisors a broad range of support and services.
The Graduate School is the point of contact for all questions related to the training programme for PhD candidates and the final stages of the public defence of the PhD thesis. The staff of the Graduate School work together with the PhD Deans and the Head of Research Affairs. The Pre-PhD Programme falls under the responsibility of the Graduate School. The Graduate School is part of the Department of Research.
