Weblectures

Weblectures are lectures that recorded on campus and made available online afterwards. The instructor can choose between a livestream or a weblecture.

The FLO is responsible for all the faculty's weblectures in the Wijnhaven (2.01, 2.02, and 3.46), Anna van Bueren (2.21), Stichthage (13.13), Schouwburgstraat (A0.06), and Spui (1B10, 1B12, and 2B58) lecture halls. This includes scheduling, editing recordings, and posting weblectures within Brightspace.

Benefits of Weblectures

Equal Educational Opportunities
Weblectures/livestreams offer students who are unable to attend on-campus lectures an equal educational opportunity, reducing study delays.

Learning Style Support
Students can watch recorded material repeatedly, pause it, and/or rewind it to better absorb complex material. This provides better preparation for the exam.

More Efficient Use of Teaching Time
Workgroups can be better utilized for in-depth study, interaction, and discussion instead of simply reviewing the basic material.

Quality
Weblectures can be reused at a later time in the event of emergencies or cancellations without loss of quality.

For more information about how FLO schedules web lectures, please consult the weblecture regulations document.

Recording a weblecture or livestream independently

If a lecture hall is not available but a weblecture/livestream is necessary, the instructor can create one themselves. This can be done by:

  1. Using the hybrid rooms or borrowing a webcam from reception. For more information, see Hybrid teaching.
  2. Using software such as Zoom to record and store the lecture. Read more here.
  3. Uploading the weblecture to the video portal (Kaltura My Media) and publishing it on Brightspace.
