Peer-feedback

Regular feedback is crucial to our students' learning process. As you cannot always provide extensive feedback yourself, it is useful to incorporate peer-feedback activities into your course.

Feedback from peers is just as effective and reliable as feedback from you, the lecturer. Additionally, peer-feedback helps students get more insight into the academic processand improve their academic products.

What makes peer-feedback useful?

However, for peer-feedback to be useful, you have to provide clear instructions to both, the provider and receiver of the feedback. For more information and tips, use our peer-feedback hand-out (on the right) and refer students to the peer-feedback module on the Science Skills Platform to help them provide effective peer-feedback.

You can always contact SEEDS for help with developing a useful peer-feedback assignment.

Tools that facilitate peer-feedback

Peer feedback can be used in class, with students engaging in discussion during class. More often, peer feedback is taking place outside of the classroom, where students can review the products of their peers and provide feedback in their own pace. Brightspace offers multiple tools to facilitate peer-feedback.

FeedbackFruits allows you to easily organise peer-feedback in various forms, such as text, video or audio. The assignment can then be deployed during class or as an assignment outside of class. A third option is to have the assignment done at home, but still give students the opportunity during a lecture or workgroup to discuss the feedback received and ask for clarification if necessary.

If you want students to review their peers' videos (pitches or kennisclips) you can also use Pitch2Peer.
